CALENDAR GIRLS THE MUSICAL
OVATION RADIO REVIEW
A PRODUCTION FILLED WITH LOVE, WARMTH & COMMUNITY!
Last night, we had the absolute pleasure of being invited along to Witham Amateur Operatic Society's new production of Calendar Girls at Witham Public Hall. The smash hit musical based on true events shines a light on those who suffer from loss and grief, need to be supported by their loved ones and the community around.
WAOS delivered throughout the performance a true sense of community, understanding, and love in their portrayal in what can be a difficult subject matter for many with this production.
The story relies heavily upon the core group of women to bring the story to life and spin all the narratives together, and oh my, they were brilliant. Each one brought an identity and character that was not only relatable but you also felt a part of their lives in a very intimate way.
Constance Lawton (Chris) commanded the stage with strong vocals and quick-witted characterisation. Susy Hawkes-Dighton (Annie) delivered a vulnerable and raw portrayal, which moved many of the audience to tears as the story evolved. And, Alice Ward (Cora) was wonderful to watch, with excellent comic timing, and brought a caring and nurturing character with so much depth and understanding to the stage.
Carole Hart (Jessie), Michelle Bacon (Stella) & Rhoda Taylor (Ruth) completed the core group of women with skill, empathy, and individualism that drew the audience in from start to end. A special mention has to go to Will Hackett (Danny) & Liv Posse (Jenny), who brought across the frustrations of being teens experiencing life in a Yorkshire village to life with not only many comedic moments, but with a warmth and skill that left the audience smiling from ear to ear.
This production is a credit to a wonderful society, and every member of the company was invested in giving new life to this incredible story. It is on until Saturday 27th April at Witham Public Hall, Essex.
